A Successful OCMT2012 Conference!

A huge thank you to everyone involved in the

Online Conference for Music Therapy 2012!!

Access to all the recordings have been emailed to Presenters and Attendees.  Please do not share this access with others.  Please email ocmt2012@gmail.com if you have any questions.

More info will be posted soon, about submitting surveys for CMTE credit.

You have until March 1st to complete these, and must attend a minimum of 10 sessions in order to receive CMTE credit for this conference.

Thank you!!

Interested in hearing what people are saying about OCMT2012?
Check out this post from one of our Presenters, Bonnie Hayhurst, MT-BC.

Ok, I’ve signed up. Now how do I attend?

You will receive an invitation to conference on Friday.

At the start of the conference, click on the link to join the conference in the invitation you will receive by email. If you click on it early, it will say “Your conference has not yet started. Please check back later.”

Once the conference is open, when you click on the link you will be asked to sign in. Enter your name, location, and email into the boxes as directed and then click the button to sign in. You will then get a screen saying something like “Please wait while we load your meeting”.

Then the room will appear in your browser. You will need your speakers on to hear the conference. You will see the speaker in a small video on the top left of your browser. You will see the presentation slides in a larger box on the right. You will see a chat room at the bottom of the screen. You may be able to chat during the sessions, but the moderator may turn off chat at some parts of the session.

You will need to leave each presentation between sessions so that we can end the recordings (so you won’t have to listen to the WHOLE conference when you want to access the recordings) and then log back in when it’s time for the next session, using either the same invitation or a new one that may be sent to you.

Win a FREE Conference Registration!

Creatively combine the hashtags #MusicTherapy and #OCMT2012, from now until Feb.16 (yes, we’re giving everyone a couple extra days) and we will do a random drawing on Feb.17th for one participant to earn a free conference registration!!!

On Facebook, you can also enter the contest, just creatively combine the words “Music Therapy” with a tag on the OCMT2012 FB group (here is the link, in case you haven’t joined yet) as your status update.

And if you promote OCMT2012 on both Twitter and FB, your name will be entered into the drawing twice!

If you’ve already paid your registration, no problem – we will refund your registration fee on Feb.17th!

If you haven’t registered yet, do it now!  Sign up to register HERE.

How do CMTEs work for this conference?

When you sign up to receive CMTE credit for OCMT 2012, you will be eligible to receive 10 CMTEs! Here’s how it works:
Participate in 10 hours of sessions. We are offering 17 hours of sessions at this conference over the course of 24 hours. We recognize that most people need some sleep, so we are offering 10 CMTEs as an approved CBMT course. There are 2 Keynote Addresses which are 90 minutes each and 14 Presentations which are 60 minutes each. Attend each session you choose (i.e. one Keynote and 9 presentations; 2 keynotes and 7 presentations; 10 presentations and no keynotes) and after each session, you will be given a link to a survey. Answer the survey and submit it for each presentation you attend. Within 30 days of the conference, you will receive a certificate. (Probably sooner than 30 days, but we are allowing for any possible technical difficulties which may arise.)

But what if I can’t attend 10 hours of live presentations? If you sign up for the conference, recordings of each presentation will be available until March 1, 2012 00:00 GMT. Fill out the survey for each presentation you view. We will send you a certificate within 30 days.

But what if I want more CMTE credits?? If you would like to claim credit for all of the presentations, then you can submit the remaining 7 hours as “unapproved” credits following the guidelines in the CBMT Recertification Manual. You can choose either the short event category or the umbrella grouping category, depending on how you would like to claim them. For more information on how to claim unapproved credits, refer to the CBMT Recertification Manual.

Guest Blog Post from one of our Keynote Speakers – Kat Fulton, MM, MT-BC

I’m delighted to write this article for the OCMT website as the conference nears. If you don’t know me, I’m Kat Fulton, Rhythm Instigator over at Rhythm For Good. I’m honored to give one of the keynote presentations on Web-Based Leadership in Music Therapy at the conference, and I hope you can join me!

You can expect a wonderful experience at the online conference. First of all, you can earn CMTEs while lounging around on your sofa or patio. You can also expect to develop deep, rich connections with music therapists around the globe while learning about a variety of great topics.

In my presentation, I’ll address all the various ways of creating meaningful interactions online. I’ll list all the tools of the trade, and I’ll speak to what the future holds for web-based continuing education in our beloved field. Here are 4 learning points in my keynote presentation

  1. How to overcome the thought of “I am not a computer person.”
  2. Who we need as web-based leaders for our beloved field.
  3. Why maintaining a healthy web presence is GREAT for your professional growth.
  4. The crucial steps to making online communication both interactive AND meaningful.

February 18 will make history for music therapy as the second online conference. Web-based education and interaction is a current trend that will become more and more popular as time goes by. Join us in the excitement of making history!
